A few years back Disney added the coolest feature to its mobile app for food lovers – Mobile Ordering! Between UberEats and the pandemic, everyone has become not only comfortable with ordering their food on an app, but many prefer it. While the feature allows you to place an order and avoid most of the long lines at your favorite quick service locations, it can make ordering for someone with a food allergy a little more stressful. Remember, this feature is just for many, but not all, of the quick service restaurants and will not help for table service and cart locations. For a full list of participating locations, see the list on Disney’s website. Now, here are our tips on how to get the most out of this feature while keeping your anxiety to a minimum:
Know What to Order Before You Order
The Mobile Ordering feature is a great way to save time but, it does not offer any information to help with food allergies. More importantly, there is no way to specify if the order needs to be prepared away from other allergens. So, make sure you visit the quick service restaurant and talk with a chef or read the ingredient binder before placing any order. You may want to consider researching the menu items well before meal time, such as first thing once you arrive at the park, to know what to order ahead of everyone in your party getting hungry.
Once You Know, Use the App, But Verify
If you are able to speak with the restaurant management and order items off the regular menu that work for your dietary restrictions, you should be safe to order those items through Mobile Ordering in the future. Remember, this only applies to items that are on the regular menu, not special allergy-friendly items that many restaurants offer, but do not appear on the regular menus. Also, it is a good idea to double check with the restaurant chef or manager about the ingredients once you pickup your items from a Mobile Order to be sure you are good to go – ingredients in menu items can change from time to time as Disney changes manufacturers.
Mobile Ordering May Not Work Out for Your Needs
Given the lack of information and ability to relay any allergy information to the restaurant through the app, the Mobile Ordering feature may not work for you. Again, best to check with the restaurant chef or manager well before you once to place an order.
